Lifeskill Education & Learning Program Olivet Boys & Girls Club

Lifeskill Education & Learning Tennis Program

Set Point Tennis Organization has partnered with the Olivet Boys & Girls Club in the City of Reading to host a Lifeskill Educational and Crime Prevention tennis program.  The program was implemented at four different clubs.  Set Point Tennis tutors helped youth with literacy improvement by structuring reading groups, explain the importance of nouns, adjectives, verbs, & how they are used to compose sentence and paragraph structure.  This allowed youth to improve academic achievement in their classroom environment, complete homework assignments more efficiently, & improve test scores, thus improving self-esteem and self-confidence.  We instructed the youth how properly use computers to create word documents, learn about history, and to do research. We used tennis as a conduit to keep the youth physically active, learn the rules & integrity of the sport, and to understand the value of teamwork.  This help youth stay healthy & reduce obesity.

We enhanced the lives of over 1000 youth & contributed over 500 volunteer hours.  This program was featured in the Reading Eagle Newspaper.  See Newspaper Article below, "For PALS young tennis players's, it's game, set, life."  The program was also featured on PBS 39 wlvt T.V., please see video at the top of page, below.  The Olivet administration commented on the program in letters below  Olivets History & Christine Barlet letters.  We engaged numerous community leaders to address the youth on lifeskill elements to help improve their lives.
